Asheville Bladecast, Ep. 2: The Law Falls Apart

by David Forbes September 7, 2022

NIMBY vs YIMBY, city council desperately shovels cash to cops, a mutual aid medic beats trumped-up charges, a notorious fake clinic gets its windows smashed, another pandemic and more in the Blade’s monthly podcast

Welcome back, readers (and listeners), to another episode of the Asheville Bladecast, our co-op’s sharp monthly look at what’s going on in our city, produced with the cooperation of Asheville FM.

This episode was intended to come out in late August, but our schedule was thrown off after I survived a devastating car crash. I am, miraculously, unharmed. If you want to help me get back on my feet, you can donate here. Fortunately, our co-op did the whole cooperative thing and pitched in to finish it.

This month’s episode, The Law Falls Apart, sees Asheville’s powers that be desperate to hire more cops, pin fake charges on a mutual aid medic and fend off a newly militant pro-abortion movement. Wonderfully, many of their schemes are failing.

But there’s more, from dubious land deals to monkeypox. This is a particularly packed episode and reporter Matilda Bliss and myself take a look at the reality of what’s going on in our town.

Listen here.
